The progress of new technologies, and the development of these, and has continued to expand the range of possibilities of citizen collaboration to carry out solidarity actions. In recent years, we have seen, such as the care of the environment has become a huge concern, particularly for the younger generations.

According to the ‘Report Youth España 2020’, developed by INJUVE young adults, between the ages of 14 and 29 years, 76% of the respondents is shown to be more concerned and sensitive to the policies and attitudes to the environment.

As a result of this situation, there have been numerous applications and web portals that have been developed in order to carry out collective actions in seeking to improve the planet on which we live. Here you have four applications that you will be able to find ideas to take care of the environment, and to share it with vuestr friends and conocid@s.

  • Forest

In the beginning, this application sought help you get and keep healthy levels of concentration and disconnect virtual. So, while the app was active, I was going to grow a virtual forest with different trees and plants. If the user were making use your device to access the other apps, the trees died and the forest disappeared. In relation to the amount of time that is effective to maintain the concentration, each user could be collecting virtual coins. This initiative, which is a priori not had a real impact on the environment, has been becoming an action that has crossed the screen and has managed to plant more than 400,000 real trees, but how?

Users of this application have collaborated with the organization Trees for the Future, which is dedicated to planting trees in areas that have been grass of the massive deforestation. Thus, of the 145 million trees planted by the organization, almost half a million have emerged from this app, in which users have enabled the option of desvirtualizar your action and get to reforest large plots of land.

  • Wibeee

By using this application we can get an electronic device that, when connected to a power outlet and through the use of Wifi connection, being reports of information about the power consumption of each home. So, in our Smartphone we will be able to get reports of our energy consumption and alerts in the event that we have exceeded the limits of consumption that we’ve previously configured. So we make sure to consume more efficiently and sustainably, and to control the invoice of light.

  • Metas sostenibles

This application seeks to ensure that users can access to a large number of actions focused on sustainability following the principle of the 4RS: “Reuse what you can, recycle what cannot, reduce what you have, and reject what you don’t need to”.

Through a system of tasks, such as do not use elevators, use of means of public transport, or consume products of second hand, the user can mark those milestones you go getting. Also, we propose a series of tips and tips to live a day-to-day more sustainable.

With increasing environmental awareness and many of us try to reduce our footprint and impact on the nature also increase in number in the ‘Fakenews’ and messages by malicious that question if it really is necessary to take into account as much as the environment. Surprising as it may seem, this happens more often than we think and a clear example are the ‘hoaxes’ that exist in relation to recycling. To help dismantle these lies, Sputnik has compiled some of the myths spread about recycling and about the proper way to separate our junk.

1. Recycling uses more energy than the manufacturing

The Environmental Protection Agency of the US proves that it is not true. According to the agency saves 95% of energy with the recycling of aluminum cans, between 60% and 74% in the case of the metal cans and 60% with the paper.

2. The plastic bags can be recycled

One of the myths most popular is that these everyday items can be recycled. But the reality is different. Most of the factories recycling doesn’t want to know anything about plastic bags because of the technical processes involved in the separation of materials that are recycled are complicated.

3. You can only recycle once

There is a myth that the materials can be recycled only once. This is true only partially, since there is some variability between the different materials in terms of the possibility of recycling it several times.

4. The materials that are thrown must be in good condition

It is not necessary that the bottles are without a bend or cans of crystal does not have defects, since all these materials are crushed into tiny fragments during the recycling process. But there is one exception: in the case of throwing out broken glass in a recycling container without separating, it is best to wrap them in a newspaper, or put them in a cardboard box for the employees of the recycling plant is not cut off.

5. Recycling could solve the overproduction of the trash

There is currently a serious problem of residual generation and accumulation of waste produced globally is completely unsustainable and the management of this waste, in general, quite poor.
Without a doubt the recycling significantly decreases the accumulation of trash, since that repurposed materials are not sent to the landfill and given a second life in the form of useful things. But the main solution lies in the previous step: in the phase of creation of this garbage, which should decrease urgently.

And now that you know a little more about recycling, we encourage you to continue sharing with us your actions and ideas that help boost the rule of the 4RS: Reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover.

The climate crisis is a reality that requires urgent measures and solutions. As many movements, associations, NGOs, platforms and countless scientists and activists are demanding, much more than good intentions are needed to stop the foreseeable environmental disaster.

The seriousness of this crisis, its magnitude and potential repercussions, make it unlikely – as with most major social issues – that we will be able to solve it through citizen action alone. However, this should not be a reason to evade our responsibility as inhabitants of the earth and users of its resources. The pressure we can exert on polluting industries and complicit governments will always be greater the greater our awareness of this reality and the greater our commitment and level of organization. All this, as long as our personal situation allows us such commitment, since we start from the awareness that there are many issues that cross us as human beings and not all of us have the same guarantees that allow us to keep covered most of our vital needs, or at least not always. Taking all this into account, thinking in a network and in a collaborative way, that is, in society, makes it easier for the solutions we are willing to support to be favorable for the majority of the community, and not to satisfy the economic interests of a few. In this sense, volunteering in nature can help us not only to get to know the natural environment better, but also to empathize more with its vulnerabilities and the need to preserve it. Do you want to know more reasons to volunteer in the environment? Read on.

7 Reasons to volunteer in relation to nature:

  1. It encompasses many more activities than we usually imagine:

Environmental or nature volunteering is all the work that is done in this field and that aims to generate a beneficial impact for the environment and for the rest of the beings that inhabit it or are nourished by that ecosystem. In this sense, not everything is purely environmental or “field” work, such as reforestation or beach cleaning – activities that are very important – but there are also many other tasks related to awareness-raising, education, planning or strategy design.

  1. It has a great SOCIAL impact

Even if the work you are going to do is mainly linked to the environment, this does not mean that you will not work with people and even less that your volunteering will not have a positive impact on human beings. By volunteering in nature or related to the environment somewhere in the world, you are preserving an environment that benefits us all.

  1. You will broaden your knowledge and be able to act accordingly.

Volunteering is often a window to the world to become aware of other realities, often not so far from our own, it is a good way to broaden our awareness and act accordingly.

  1. It is effective in the fight against poverty

In much of the world, poverty is directly related to access to natural resources, their use and the quality of the environment. If we can generate a consistent global and local awareness of the use of these resources, we can have an impact on poverty rates in certain areas that depend directly on them.

  1. You will learn a lot

Well done, almost every volunteering experience is a great learning experience in personal terms as we mentioned in point 4, but also in a practical sense. Depending on the type of volunteering you choose, you will be able to develop or improve a number of skills that can be useful in other aspects of your life as well.

  1. You will be able to teach what you know to others:

Just as you can learn from others and from the activities that take place, you can also contribute your previous knowledge and skills to the rest. Generating spaces for exchange and learning is a very nice way to grow together.

  1. You will meet people with the same interests as you

In order to generate such a network of knowledge exchange, people are needed to form such a network, and volunteers, including environmental volunteers, are made by people. Committed people who, like you, want to look for solutions to current problems and try to do their bit as much as they can. So, you will meet interesting, creative, and predisposed people, people you can rely on to continue promoting initiatives that change the world.
